Meet the ClassForKids Team | James

Written by Sarah Ahmad

In ClassForKids, we're big on getting to know each other on a personal level. We're chatty people and have a lot of good banter, but we're also actual friends (I know, it's unbelievable that people at work actually like each other right?! How rare!). And because the company is increasing with every passing term, we're not forgetting anyone and we're ensuring that everyone gets their time under the Meet the Team spotlight (even if they're shy about it).

This time around, we're writing about a big personality in the office! From his sharp wit and hilarious sarcastic jokes, to his love for learning new code, to his charitable passion for Get Well Gamers.

We'll be introducing you to a person with a bigger presence but an even bigger heart! Meet James!

  1. What is your earliest memory?

"When I was sitting on my mum’s knee at the age of around 2 while watching the first coverage of the gulf war."

  1. Which person do you most admire and why?

"My wife because she is really hard-working. For example, one day after I came home, she had laid down flooring after simply watching a Youtube video about it! She also supported me when I decided to leave a comfortable job with a good salary to pursue a career in coding."

  1. What is your most embarrassing moment?

"My most embarrassing moment was when I had a job straight out of university and I spent 6 months in each department - one department was really enjoyable while the other was unorganised and poorly ran. My boss, who had heard me complain about it, addressed me in front of the whole office, saying “I hear you’re not very happy” and then I started crying in front of everyone."

  1. What did you want to be when you grow up?

"I wanted to be a marine biologist or a vet because I worked in a pet shop when I was 12 years old!"

  1. Tell us something no one in the office knows about you?

"My uncle went to prison for clubbing baby seals."

  1. What word or phrases do you overuse?

“Do you know …”

  1. What’s the worst job you have ever done?

While I was a student in university, I worked on the roads to maintain them, which was rubbish because the other workers didn’t get on with me.

I also did coding for a big company, which I didn’t enjoy because he found the company to be very clique-y and just unenjoyable in general.

  1. Best thing about working in ClassForKids?

The best thing about working in ClassForKids is my boss, Kev. He’s really encouraging when it comes to taking initiative and having creativity, which is good! That’s what coding is all about! For example, if I want to try a new code, I don’t need to ask permission to do so, allowing me to have freedom to be creative.

  1. We all love to talk about ClassForKids. Where is the weirdest place you have found yourself talking about us?

The weirdest place I’ve ever talked about ClassForKids was when I was in Bali with my wife and I was telling a surf coach all about it.
